Trinity Episcopal Cathedral

The redwood church of 1863 on St. James Park, the oldest church building in continuous use in San Jose.

Designed by retired sea captain James W. Hammond and built of redwood from the Santa Cruz Mountains, the church was later cut in half and pulled apart by a team of horses so that new arms could make it a cross. It became a cathedral in 1980, and in 2017 its chime grew to a 24-bell carillon.
