Hotel De Anza

The ten-story Zig Zag Moderne hotel of 1931 on West Santa Clara Street, with its rose neon sign and the painted Diving Diva.

Local business people raised shares from more than 200 residents to build it, and it broke ground on February 27, 1931. It was to be called the San Jose Hotel but was named for the explorer Juan Bautista de Anza. Nearly demolished in the 1970s, it was restored and reopened in 1990, and is on the National Register.
